The human eye is an essential organ with which we interact with the world. We perceive about 80 percent of impressions through eyes. Good vision influences your performance in every field of life. It makes it important to take much care of our eye health. Neglecting eye care can affect the quality of life.

Therefore, a little eye care can save your money and maintain your vision for the rest of your life. Protect your eyesight by taking some simple precautions.

1. Consume a Healthy Diet

Your eye health has a strong relationship with a healthy and balanced diet. It starts with the food you intake that contains nutrients like Zinc, Vitamin C, and E, Lutein have an essential role for healthy eyesight. Fatty acids strengthen your eyes and prevent aging effects. A healthy balanced diet suitable for eye health includes:

  • Fish: For good eye health, oily fish like tuna, salmon
  • Vegetables: Green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach, and collards
  • Proteins: Non-meat proteins like eggs, nuts, and beans
  • Fruits and Juices: A healthy vision needs antioxidants. The best antioxidants which are essential for a healthy vision are citrus fruits and juices.

2. Get a Good Night Sleep

Sleeping well ensures good vision. Regularly skipping sleep can be hazardous for eye health. Your eyes can work better if you have rested well. Always get a good night’s sleep to have good eyesight.

3. Drink Enough Water

Dehydration can lead you to dry eyes and allergy. The human body needs adequate water to function correctly. Taking insufficient liquid can cause complications in your body as well as in your eyes. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to avoid dryness in your eyes.

4. Wear Sunglasses

Sunglasses are considered a fashion accessory, which is a wrong notion. Wearing sunglasses can protect you from cataracts, macular degeneration, and pinguecula. A good pair of sunglasses can block ultraviolet rays of the sun, which are incredibly harmful to your eyes.

5. Avoid Smoking

‘Smoking is injurious to health’ is an accurate quote regarding health, and it also impacts your eye health. Cigarettes have chemicals and toxins like nicotine and there are chances to get cataracts that might damage your optic nerve, macular degeneration, and other medical problems. Kick your habit of smoking to avoid poor eyesight and consult a medical professional to help you maintain the choice to quit smoking.

6. Be Careful While Using Digital Devices

Staring at a computer screen or mobile phone for too long can cause poor eyesight. Excessive exposure to computers or digital devices can lead to blurry vision, dry eyes, eye strain, and long-distance focus issues.

You can take these protective measures to avoid eye problems :

  • Take 15 minutes to break after about two hours of work.
  • Choose a comfortable chair and place it where your feet can lie flat on the floor.
  • Blink your eyes when you feel dryness.
  • Use computer glasses for computer use.
  • Give rest to your eyes after twenty minutes by staring at twenty feet away for a while.

7. Keep Your Hands Clean

Germs and bacteria on your hands can cause infections. Wash your hands before wearing and removing the contact lens. Germs and viruses can go into your eyes by rubbing with unclean hands. Always wash your hands with a mild soap before handling your eye lenses.

8. Visit Eye Doctor Regularly

The human eye is the most crucial organ in the body, which needs regular and proper care. Experts recommend eye exams at least once a year. Eye specialists have the best knowledge, techniques, experience, and equipment to examine eyes. So, see your eye doctor get your eyes checked regularly.

Morning walk and exercise is the key to a healthy lifestyle. Exercise not only keeps your body fit but also improves a good vision. Fresh air supplies oxygen to your eyes. Careless use of substandard products can lead to infections to your eyes. If you use eye makeup like mascara, eye pencil, and eyeshadow, use these products of a quality brand to avoid eye problems. Avoid using eye makeup products like mascara for more than three months.

Despite all the care you take for your eyes, there is a factor that can make you unlucky regarding your eye health, and that is family health history. Diabetes and high blood pressure present in your family can put you at risk, and you can suffer eye ailment. Take this issue seriously and visit your eye doctor to avoid eye problems.

13. Signs for Eye Problems

Be careful about your eye health and examine your eyes by yourself periodically. See your doctor if you find a hazy or double vision, redness in your eyes, constant pain or swelling in eyes, dryness, and low light sightedness. Nearsightedness and farsightedness should also be taken seriously. Consult an experienced eye doctor to deal with eye problems.
